The Light Brigade Tactic

Kobutsu | 13.08.2001 21:14

I have often wondered how long it will take for protest actions to begin to develop new
tactics based on some very old principles. I remember studying about Archimedes in school
and the story about how he allegedly used bronze mirrors to set fire to the sails of ships in
Syracuse harbor in 212BC.

can we build an eco powered steam engine

13.08.2001 23:22

as most of the oil related problems we have now come from
the industrial revolution and the mistaken choice to use coal to heat the water to make steam . if we could go back and make a correction , perhaps we could skip petrol ect

be interesting to see if cops melt ...

the costs of escalation

As you write, the "crowd control" people are experimenting with using lasers and other intense lights, and sound, to attack crowds of protestors. So I worry about the use of this tactic, to the extent that it might make legitimate the use of light weapons on the other side. Remember too that while you may be happy to hurl solar-powered molotovs not all of us would be.

On the other hand, if we ever needed a means of defence against light weapons ........

That would be bloody funny - watch a line of robo-cops melt. Liquid gun metal running down their legs - rah!

Another experiment to show the power of mirror:
In France in the city of Odeillo (south) scientist have made a solar oven. A large number of mirrors concentrate the solar rays on a single point: they can put iron in ebullition!!
Some scientists think to produce electricity by this way.
