HIROSHIMA NEVER AGAIN!
Art For A Change | 06.08.2001 19:06
On August 6, 1945, at exactly 8:15 in the morning, the Atomic age began with the vaporization of the City of Hiroshima and many of it's occupants. Today, fifty six years later... anti-Nuclear demonstrators stage a "die-in" in front of Hiroshima's A-bomb Dome at precisely 8:15 on the morning of August 6, 2001 (Photo by Susumu Takahashi). Over 50,000 people gathered in Hiroshima's Peace Park to remember the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians who perished in the world's first (and hopefully last), Nuclear Holocaust. 221,893 thousand Japanese civilians perished in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki... and hibakusha (Atom Bomb Survivors), continue to die of bomb related diseases and wounds.
To commemorate the 56th Anniversary, ART FOR A CHANGE is presenting an exhibition of 12 hibakusha Paintings. The works are accompanied by text and the testimony of the Artists. The hibakusha Art can be found at the following URL;
