Media Democracy Day - Friday October 19th, 2001
A Day of Media Protest, Education and Change

Media activists, content creators and concerned citizens are planning the 1st annual Media Democracy Day - Friday October 19th, 2001.

Our goals are to "increase public awareness around media and democracy issues, voice displeasure at irresponsible media practices, and put media reform on the local, national and international agenda."

Protest!

Demonstration against a media system that’s based on commercialisation and exclusiveness.

Education!

Promote an understanding of how the media shapes our world, and limits democracy.

Change!

Call for the development of a new Media Culture that encourages citizen participation and is responsive to public interests. Demand a diversification of media control, equitable representation and increased community access.

Events are to include:

Creative protest, teach-ins, guerrilla media stunts, alternative media productions, and a benefit concert/celebration.

WANTED!!
Like-minded individuals & organisations from communities to co-ordinate local events.
Get involved!

NOTE: While the Media Democracy Day organising committee is concentrating our efforts on co-ordinating events and activities in Toronto, we encourage cities and towns throughout Canada and the world to organise your own Media Democracy Day actions.

It is hoped that Media Democracy Day will grow into a type of "Earth Day" for the Cultural Environment and Media Democracy Movement.
