Hackney protest, please support!

Act local think Global | 31.08.2001 14:43

Taken from web-site below - A demonstration has been called for the next Hackney Council Regeneration Committee meeting to protest at the proposed hitlist of council facilities to be sold off (more news to follow on this). It's expected that community groups who use the facilities will be represented at the demo.

The demo takes place at 6pm on September 13th.

I would also like to add that the Citizens Advice Bureau is under threat of closure in a place which is statistically the fourth most deprived area in Britain and where about 17,000 asylum seekers live.

Also can anyone tell me what places have been shut down in Hackney already. Atherton nursery, Huddlestone Centre? What else?

What's happening in Hackney, London, is a flagship for Labour's planed privatisation of of health & local authority services.
Hackney is to the Labour party wot Wansworth was to the Tories.
Although local people & workers had fuck all control when it was run by the old labour beaurkacy, the new regieme ain't even pretending we got a look in.
349 Hackny council employees have been told they will be sacked for not accepting the new contracts the Council is seeking to impose on their workers from October 1st .
At the same time the Councillors are meeting on the 13th of September to sell off all available comunity asets ie. buildings that have sustained everthing from nurseries & adventure playgrounds to local Turkiskc community centres. The council is also withdrawing fundimg to a minum of 38% of all local community organisations, except of course the Ocean (classy music venue) and a few other mega-projects.

New Labour / New Hackney - poor people need not apply
It's time to say YA BASTA!

WE"VE HAD ENOUGH!
