Perhaps 'they' want civil war?

Well, if there weren't already sufficient grounds for massive protest at Brighton next month, this should tip the balance. What is this wretched man thinking of, I wonder rhetorically? This is the final insult.

Tony Blair's New Labour government was elected in June with the direct support of less than 25% of the population eligible to vote. (It's now official - 23%) His recent comments at the EU & G8 fiascos on due democratic process do not bear scrutiny now these figures are disclosed. He does not have a mandate. This is not democracy.

***LABOUR AUCTIONS CONFERENCE SLOTS***

Documents seen by the Guardian reveal that the prime minister, Tony Blair, is to attend a £15,000 reception at the Labour conference paid for by the burger chain McDonald's. It agreed to sponsor the event after receiving guarantees that Mr Blair would attend. The function
is one of the most controversial commercial "opportunities" offered by Millbank, the US corporation being a target of anti-globalisation protesters who intend to demonstrate outside the conference when it opens on September 30.

In its leader column, the Guardian says New Labour has "taken the shilling of a global byword for world capitalism". It predicts a revolt in the spirit of 1998 when delegates ditched accreditation passes attached to a necklace printed with the logo of the Somerfield supermarket in favour of old style metal chains handed out by the
Co-op.

the ghost of Macdonald

30.08.2001 16:56

It has been said since 1994 that with Blair, the ghost of Macdonald has been stalking the Labour party. But I thought that referred to Ramsay, not Big Mac.

Whoever said that "history repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce" should have added "with Coke and fries".
