TABD 2001 CEO conference

The TABD is about to hold their annual CEO conference, this time in Stockholm. It will not pass quietly.

The TABD, TransAtlantic Business Dialogue, will hold their annual CEO conference in Stockholm, Sweden 11-12 October. For everybody who doesn't fancy going to Qatar to demonstrate against the WTO, this occasion is the second prize.

TABD is a lobby made up of CEO's from major US and EU companies and has since the start in 1995 lobbied US and EU governments with unprecedented succes. It is also a zealous advocate for the WTO and desperately wants a new round of negotiations. The CEO conference is the TABD's most important event and will host 100+ CEO's and many top government officials as well.

The TABD seeks worldwide harmonization of standards, dismantling of existing regulations they see as "trade barriers", and a say in the making of new laws and international agreements.
Of course, laws that affect business and trade will not only affect those areas but will also have an impact on the conditions under which people work, what people eat, the way people live. They will affect the environment and so the future of every living being on earth.
Regardless of one's personal opinion on laws in general, laws tailor made to the interests of corporate capitalism isn't the way to go.

I call for all people with a notion of democracy and justice who care about our common future to go to Stockholm on the 11-12 October. To go to Stockholm and loudly speak your discontent with laws that affect the whole of humanity in all aspects of life being drafted by Big Business and State in a cosy companionship behind shut doors.

For the ones among you who were in Gothenburg last June this is the opportunity to show the swedish police that you are not deterred, that they through their repressive strategy have not managed to intimidate you, only to make you even more determined.
