Vancouver - A group of environmentalists dressed as grizzly bears has gone to the American Consulate in Vancouver to apply for political asylum in the U.S.
Spokesperson Rob Sinclair says the bears are protected in the State of Washington, but not in B.C.
Another group of protesters dressed as bears demonstrated outside Canada House in London's Trafalgar Square on Thursday. They set up a billboard showing a grizzly bear killed by hunters.
Both groups were protesting the Liberal government's decision to lift the province-wide moratorium on grizzly bear hunting this fall. However, regional bans will remain in effect in parts of B.C.
The grizzly hunt is set to begin on September 1.
