Democratic Deficiency @ G8

Dr S | 29.07.2001 20:17

Hey it's just occured to me...

...that all or almost all of the world leaders present at the G8 summit had something seriously wrong with them.

Putin is seriously dodgy.
George Dubya officially lost the election.
Berlusconi is a prime minister who owns much of the country's media.
Um... Blair's party only got 25% of the vote (the general public didn't vote for Blair himself at all).
Um.. not sure about the others but I'm sure most of them have less than 50% public support.

Putin

It's interesting you mention Putin. Nobody seems particularly bothered that he butchered, raped, pillaged and destroyed Chechnya as Prime Minister under the Yeltsin dictatorship. What happened in Chechnya put the Balkans issue to shame. You think the mass destruction unleashed in Yugoslavia was bad, just think about the (unreported) genocide in Chechnya and the surrounding region. But this doesn't save Blair's skin. Thanks to Old Tone, the UK was Putin's first diplomatic destination as Fuhrer of Russia.

Not surprising really. Tone has a bit of a habit of sleeping with fascists. He invited Jiang Zemin for tea not long ago. He even demonstrated his sympathy for Deng Xiaopeng's Tiannamen Square tactics by ordering the Met to confiscate Tibetan flags and arrest anyone who brought home the reality of the fascist Chinese government to Zemin and the mass media.

Oh, and there's the matter of Blair's adoration of Italy's renewal of fascist police state tactics. While British citizens were tortured by fascists, Blair was full of praise.

Now, back to the problem of low voter turn-out ...
