Possible test case for European Court of Human Rights

Rochelle | 26.07.2001 00:39

Possible violations of the Right to be Free of Inhuman and Degrading Treatment, Right to a Fair Trial, Freedom of Expression, Right to Privacy (IMC attack), Freedom of Assembly and perhaps the Right to Life. Is anyone handling an ECHR challenge?

I have just stated this in reply to another report, but thought I would publish it as it's an important issue.

I think there may have been violations of the Right to be Free of Inhuman and Degrading Treatment, Right to a Fair Trial, Freedom of Expression, Right to Privacy, Freedom of Assembly, and possibly the Right to Life (Carlo). The information and witnesses are there, so there's probably a good test case here. The ECHR would probably not be as sympathetic as we would like, but I still think it could be an important precedent to police and states about handling this kind of large scale protest across Europe.

I know Amnesty are investigating it but they don't take cases to ECHR as far as I know, are GSF considering it? Organisations like Liberty stay within the UK, and I emailed Interights who haven't replied to me. Does anyone know whether this is already being considered, and if not would people like to meet up and consider it? This is my legal area and I'm desperately trying to find out who is handling the case, if there is one!

Thanks,

Rochelle
