Press/ photocall:
G8 DEPORTEES to protest italian consulate
Featuring the pink tutu and angel outfit the immigration police tried to ban…..
Some of the six stopped from entering Italy by the Italian authorities plan to protest outside the Italian Consulate in London Saturday 10 am. (38 eaton place nr. sloane square)
Six British people to date are known to have been refused entry to Italy, without explanation, on their way to protest at the G8 summit in Genoa following tip-offs by British police. The only thing the six seem to have in common is that they have all taken part in protests at the Trident submarine base at Faslane in recent years organised by Scottish CND and Trident Ploughshares.
Alarm has been raised that although some of the six have not been convicted following protests at Faslane the Italian authorities appear to have been tipped off by British police.
Those deported from Italy include Brian Quail, Joint Secretary of Scottish CND and his partner, Babs MacGregor. They were stopped and deported from Turin airport yesterday evening. Brian, 62, a retired teacher from Glasgow, is also a member of the Christian faith based Iona Community and is a veteran of protests at Faslane.
They will be joined outside the Italian Consulate Saturday by Richard Byrne, 29, a vet from east London who was among three people deported from Genoa airport on Wednesday.
The others of the six were: Lance Goodey, 49, from Glasgow, a charity worker, deported on Tuesday; John Harper, 30, a factory worker and Julie Quinn, 20, a student, also both from Glasgow and both deported on Wednesday.
 Brian, Babs and Richard will be outside the Italian consulate at 38 Eaton Place, Belgrave, London, SW1X 8AN at 10.00 am tomorrow, Saturday 21st July. They will be wearing costumes they planned to wear in Genoa. Richard will be dressed as an angel carrying a sign saying ‘Please don’t shoot Protestors’ and Babs will be wearing a shocking-pink tutu. The nearest tube is Sloane Square.
 Scottish CND is planning a press conference on Monday in Glasgow with Member of the Scottish Parliament Tommy Sheridan who has himself also been arrested at protests at Faslane..
 Protests at Faslane have been growing in recent years. The most recent in February attracted a thousand people and 385 people were arrested for sitting peacefully in front of the base gates including George Galloway MP and Tommy Sheridan MSP.
The next mass sit-down protest at Faslane, organised by Scottish CND, Trident Ploughshares (website: www.gn.apc.org/tp2000) , British CND and Faslane Peace Camp will be on Monday 22nd October.
