BE CAREFUL OUT THERE

IN RED ZONE | 19.07.2001 18:49

warning for activists in genoa

To anyone thinking of approaching the red zone through the smaller streets, such as in the south, please be very careful. Gates such as the main gate in front of the palace(only about 50 yards from the palace entrance, which is in view from the gate) are maybe 10 yards wide with a small square behind them, but have alleys going into them that are extremely narrow, maybe one yard. If a crowd went to such a gate and broke or nearly broke the defences (with others coming to see what was happening) it is likely the police would use tear gas, pepper spray or plastic bullets creating panic and possible serious injuries or fatalities in the narrow alleyways as people (especially with tear gas or pepper spray) ran away as others hearing a fence coming down may run to it. The police would claim it was not their fault.

Most groups are arriving at the red zone with open space behind them ,for good reason. Be careful out there.
