Seven activists arrested and held in police custody, were beaten this afternoon in Genoa.

During what was apparently a demonstration giving out flyers about the demo on the 19th, seven activists were arrested by police. four germans and a polish woman were arrested in one incident and two german IMC journalists in another. the first five were all in a car that was stopped and searched. the reasons for their arrest are unclear at this stage. however, the two IMC journalists were stopped for filming police and taken to the police station at Via Armando Diaz and were held for three hours before their press accredition were found and released. Both IMC journalists were punched and abused. (video interview uploaded later). they both saw the others in a disshevelled state with the polish girl showing injuries to her face. The two IMC media activists are now safely back with and are being interviewed by lawyers at the moment. the lawyer has been to the police station to check on the condition of the other activists and to see if they can be released.

Demonstrations are expected against the police station tonight. more news will follow.
