The Bradford 'uprising' was especially effective at trashing the small eastern European delicatessan at the top of Oak Lane, Manningham. Obviously a strategic target in the economic political infrastructure!

A show of strength to keep the fascists down, I support. A show of strength which weakens the links between disdvantaged and oppressed communities just feeds the culture of seperatism and fear that prevents us living and working together.

This was not a strike against the state or our fucked up, unequal, unsustainable society - it was an opportunity for the lads to show just how hard they are.

Call it what you will, but trashing small shops serving minority communities only undermines the trust we need to live and work together.

A Travelling Circus of British Nationalist are organising demos in areas with large Asian communities. This has culminated with an attempt to hold a rally in Bradford, who is host to a long-standing, integrated Asian population. Inevitably this was met by the strongest protests from the people of Bradford. The police failed to respond to National Front insults and abuse, because they are all racists and so Asians, once again, were forced to defend themselves. This deliberate and provocative behaviour by the BNP and incitement by police, is intended to divide people, alienate immigrants and cause discord in peaceful, but impoverished neighbourhoods.

The Home Secretary said; to defend yourselves against racist, Nazi intimidation, is "anti-social behaviour."

Interesting report. I've only kept up to date with what happened in Bradford in the Observer - clearly not the best place to find out what goes on. Obviously there are loads of different viewpoints that can be taken on this, but at least you've presented something completely different from the liberal (nonsense?) which is widely reported. Comments like "Flowers" above give power and credence to the BNP by portraying their victims as the culprits. After the Stephen Lawrence scandal the police said, "we have learned lessons." After a suicide verdict was reached on two black men linched by racists in Telford, the police said, "we have learned lessons." The police clearly have a very slow "learning" response and will have to be "taught" this lesson the hard way by decent law abiding citizens. If police officers choose to leave their wives and kids each day to protect the NWO agenda, they must face the consequences.

Whilst the riots in Bradford have raised awareness of the communities stance against Fascism, the damage done to many peoples property, damage which the families could ill afford in a low income area, was perhaps a cost too great. The NF managed to catalyse unrest in the area without a true public showing, something which I believe needs to be examined.

I don't understand why the violence flared up in Bradford in the way it did. The ANL got a victory without violence - it mobilised popular support against the Nazis and ensured that the few that did turn up got a kicking. But then to smash up the shops and homes of whites who are nothing to do with the NF/BNP is misdirected and mindless. This isn't defending communities, it is destroying them. As a result, nobody won last night.

The politicians who inflamed this tension with bigotted statements like; a country of "foreigners" and "bogus asylum seekers" and "mongrel" people, have won, because they have destroyed decades of good race relations in places like Bradford by inciting hatred where none existed. They have done this in deprived areas to exploit the rising discontent with British racist politics, which makes them disaffected. Violence against property pales to insignificance compared with the violence waged against the Third World, by Globalisation.

This was on the cards for a long time. It wasn't big , it wasn't clever and its damaged a good town. what happened in my hometown had more to do with an excuse to riot than it did to do with the far right. When you start smashing up family businesses and attacking normal citizens then your point is lost.

This rioting behaviour can be expected from a generation of children both black and white who are told by the billboards that they can have everything but alas can't get anything because the system is geared to keep the poor poor and the minorites a minority.

This is more a social issue than a direct racial issue. Towns like Bradford need investments in the community, in the schools so kids feel they can build a future and not feel alienated. Making people feel valued and not an underdog would be a better start.

Stop blaming the police for everything , they did the best they could for an underfunded police force, and belive me it is underfunded. This was a riot for riots sake the kids have been wanting to do it for months it just makes then feel 'ard.

Personally it all makes me sick. We are supposed to build a communities not destroy then. Theres no excuse for violence.

The (police) orchestrated riots got a result, now the Militarized State can use water cannon, rubber bullits, pulse beams, any damn thing they want to "crush" our rebellion. But they are desperate, scared and losing! BTW who's been improving life for residents in Bradford anyway? The government? No? I didn't think so!

I'd have been much happier if they had rubber bulleted and tear gassed the lot of them. Black, white, pink, green , that was plain destruction and they'd have all deserved it. If it was Ireland then thats what they'd have got.

What I saw at the weekend broke my heart. I have lived in Bradford for 5 years and still work there. I love the place and feel at home there. I have never had any trouble from anyone and always felt that Bradford's various communites on the whole got on amazingly well. I find it disgusting that people like the BNP and the National Front should bring in hate and fear to a place which has its own set of problems without race being a factor. I also find it equally bad that the police reacted by protecting those racists and causing more of a riot than if the racists had simply been driven out (ok I am not condoning violence but 20 thugs no matter how stupid are not going to stick around long if they are greatly outnumbered) The racists go home bruised and battered, end of story...
But no the police love a good fight just as much as a skin head thug - spotting the difference between those two groups must have been hard at the weekend. As long as racists in this country are allowed to antagonise and bring fear and hatrid into communities then we are going to see more violence in the inner cities.
What we, the people living (mostly) peacefully in our cities, need to do is rise above their level. Look at the long term - if there is no violence, no burning, no looted BMW garages than what do the media have to report about? How do the 20 facists get there ugly mugs on the front page? Where are the stories about the "asians randomly attacking white youths"?
We can show them that they are the ones not fit to call themselves human and that they are the true minority. But we do not need violence to do this. Lets take a leaf out of the direct action groups book and start using the brains that the other side so obviously lack.

It strikes me that tyhese riots sweeping the North aren't really race riots. Race is clearly a factor and the actions of facist fuckwits like the BNP and NF may be the spark, but the longer terms causes of the riots are social exclusion, depravation etc. Basically the same as the causes of the Brixton riots 20 years ago. Whatever Bleurgh and his cohorts tell us about the benefits of globalisation and othe neo-liberal bollocks, we are no closer to solving the real social problems of the country than we were in 1981 and with the ever growing inequalities between rich and poor the situation doesn't look like improving anytime soon.Whatever Blunkett says about cracking down on rioters, unless they target the root causes, they're only going to keep happening.

Again all the government learn from a riot is what new toys riot cops need.

These riots are a scream of frustration from people who have nothing to loose and the police simply make a very big, very easy, vey ugly target.

In 1934 Hitler ensured his control of the National Socialist Party by
the murder of Gregor Strasser who was not a racist. It was about 1938
before specifically anti jewish legislation was passed. When
Griffin is reported as demanding racial equality he can be denounced as

I do not identify the leadership of New Labour as equally bad with
Griffin. I identify them as worse. Griffin may be honest, they

Be careful here, there are fascists in all races.. and fascism can be
quite separate from racism, and a benevolent fascism might be
preferrable to a race riot torn democracy once one finds ones own family

I came out against the Stalinist line in 1937 when I said "There must be
a united front against Fascism". Today I see that Globalisation is the
ultimate Fascism, and look to see who are the people who can break it.
When the Depression gets as deep as in 1932, Nationalism will be strong
enough to wreck Globalisation. If Socialists spend their energy
fighting Nationalists, neither will be stong enough to overcome the New
Order of Fascism. It was the combined dreams of Socialists and

I am nobody to condemn anyone there because I don't know the details. But in general it is useful to check if there are nazi or police provocateurs inside the communities. First you should check thous guys who owe something to the police (for example are dealing drugs) because it is so easy to blackmail them.
