A small demonstration occurred today in central Genoa over the restrictions placed on all demonstraters in the Red Zone.
On Saturday July 7th, around 50 people (white overalls and friends) demonstrated in the Historical City of Genoa, followed by a crowd of journalists. The aim of the action was to have a public appearance denouncing the criminalisation of activists and showing the legitimacy of the protests. The police is making identity checks on 1200 people a day. One home where activists are staying was raided the day before yesterday.
Several TuteBianche had colourful plastic waterpistols and showed them to people and the cameras." these are the weapons that the state foound when they raided one of our homes", Someone said through the megaphoone. the activists protested agianst the creation of a red zone which allows only restricted access in possession of a permit ( permission to be alive will be needed soon). The activists designed a huge " Universal Passport" which was meant to be valid for anyone willing to be in Genoa in the up and coming days. It said things like " country: Planet Earth, Profession: Disobedient etc. Copies of official redzone permits including an anti-G8 Symbol were handed out massively. The activists don't accept the division of the city into a red zone and oother zones. During the march they announced that on July 20th thhey would enter the red zone with various acts of disobedience.
The police remained quiet and things went smoothly. the mood was upbeat. People could see that the activists that the media has been labelling terrorists, were the same ones talking to them and playing around with water pistols in the heat of tthe afternoon.
