Travelling Circus

Daniel Brett | 18.06.2001 14:30

Tony Blair's idea of a travelling sounds cool

I like the sound of Tony Blai'r 'anarchist travelling circus'. I think one should actually be set up. It could be really imaginative, with clowns firing water pistols at police lines and maybe a trapeeze act to defy police cordons and jump into summit venues. Perhaps circus freeks could baffle world leaders into submission, or something. What do you think of using the circus as a means of political expression?

'allowed' protest?

18.06.2001 14:39

Blair added: 'Their actions have nothing to do with anything other than a desire to cause violence that threatens the lives and livelihoods of innocent people. I would like to
send the clearest possible signal that such protests must not and will not disrupt the proper workings of democratic organisations.'

Despite my disgust at the violence demonstrated by both sides in Gothenberg, I feel honour bound to ask of our prime minister whether such protests are allowed to disrupt the improper workings of all the undemocratic organisations and maneuvers that he is a party to?

THE BIRTH OF A MOVEMENT

18.06.2001 15:26

I am just translating from the front page story of "Eleuthetypia" the newspaper with
the HIGHEST circulation in Greece.

Title: "THE BIRTH OF A MOVEMENT"

"Seattle, Toronto, Nice Prague and now Geteborg. An international movement is being born and seems that it is becoming gigantic. Protestors from all over the world - "groups of criminals" according
to the Swedish primeminister Goran Person but also according to Schroeder and Chirac -, are protesting against the democracy deficit within the E.U. and the life that the ruthless globalisation is offering...

You don't often hear positive comments on main stream media.
2 weeks ago there was an interview with the president of the Greek House of Commons
and he was saying that he would go to Genoa.

New targets needed!

Arange community feasts in your surrounding community to spread the message. Nature and culture is beeing destroyed because of clear reasons. Inform the people. Corporate media will do all they can to twist our ideas. Contact your community. People are not willing to destroy. Common people is just misleaded. I feel its important to act to support something, not to resist ( which is of course very important). We can go out to show what kind of life we are demanding. Give out food, art, music and information.
We will grow out from the society. Be creative and take it to the sreets of ours.
2. targets for violent actions. Target something else outside the city. We can target factories, banks, media. Not windows and police. Let demonstrators demonstrate and go for guerillaaction for real.
3. take action against corporate media. Why we should let mediaworkers do their bullshit during the domonstrations. They are there to get the picture of fighting punks and police.

Democracy or else.

A circus theme would be entertaining, but Tony and his renegade bandits plan to hold future Summits aboard battleships. They are untouchable, unaccountable, uncaring, uncompromising, undemocratic authoritarians.

All you can do is just laugh at that hopeless tory..

So, we are MISGUIDED?
MISGUIDED? MISGUIDED? MISGUIDED?

I don't see many corporate guides to our movement actually Tony. And what, they wanna treat us like football hooligans now???!

The more you demonise us the stronger we become.
Ah yes, globalisation is so inevitable. That's why no one votes anymore, thousands turn up to cause `trouble' cause you can't go out for your luxury dinner, and you're probably gonna have to have to start meeting with your elite club out of space to save democracy from the thousands of evil thugs who just don't understand that global financial institutions can actually benefit the poor, although you don't quite know how, but its better if you don't have a conscience, you know?

Arggh enough is enough. Action stations.

Hmmm...

Two things:

Firstly, I like the idea of leaving the protesters to protest etc. If the pigs are going to start shotting at people we cannot afford the risk of 'fluffies' getting hurt, because of the actions of someone with whom they have no conection.

Also keep that circus idea in mind...

to the person talking about battleships...

18.06.2001 21:20

can i just point out: the important thing about any ship, is that they can sink....

tony blair did walk into it didn't he? just like with the poll tax when they had class war walking around with the banner saying "rent-a-mob on tour". how about a nice anarchists' travelling circus marching around london on november "proudly terrorising the rich since time began" or something. and how about a fully armed biotic baking brigade to obscure the police's helmets with cream? if they can't see us, they can't shoot us, and they won't get in the way, so we won't have to try and move them!

Circus

19.06.2001 12:16

I've been inundated with e-mails regarding the idea of an anarchist travelling circus - particularly clowning - since I sent the original message. I don't know how you'd go about setting one up - any Wombles around for advice? We could simply organise circus actions, where everyone can get tooled up with silly string, custard pies and very large pantaloons and basically cause circus mayhem. Every time the BBC runs its 'Comic Relief' nonsense, we could have people clowning against capitalism at the World Bank HQ in London. But not just clowning - we could have people-taming (where capitalist bosses make workers jump through hoops for them) magic shows, etc. Fire breathers and jugglers are already a feature of today's anti-capitalist demonstrations, so a full-blown mass circus against capitalism would be a logical development. More importantly, you can disguise yourself as a clown instead of wearing black balaclavas, which actually make people look really stupid and just a lot of people off who would otherwise be on own side. Can you get arrested for being dressed as a clown? Can policemen seriously suggest that it would be a criminal offence to wear a red nose and fake hair? Ha ha ha! It would be brilliant! Long live Blair for mooting this idea!

There is supposedly a Carnival Caravan happening to Genoa, not to sure about details but will try to find out more. I am sure any UK bods interested in joining/particpating/organising circus stuff will be able to tag along.
