HELP STICK IT TO STARBUCK$

Tom Taylor | 14.06.2001 18:52

Starbuck$ is feeling heat from all over about their failure to actively promote Fair Trade coffee and remove ALL genetically engineered from their products. JOIN THE CHORUS!

As you may have already heard Organic Consumers Association's Starbuck$ campaign, the largest ever mounted against a major US food and beverage company around the issues of genetic engineering and Fair Trade, has been a tremendous success so far.

The campaign launch on March 20th involved protesters in over 100 cities in the US and Canada and generated hundreds of media stories. With over 150 cities now participating in ongoing leafleting actions we need at least one final push to force Starbucks to the negotiating table. TWO WEEKS FROM NOW ON JUNE 25-26 WE WILL BE ORGANIZING STARBUCKS GLOBAL DAYS OF ACTION ON JUNE.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THESE DAYS OF ACTION SUCCESSFUL AND HELP GUARANTEE THAT STARBUCK$ REMOVE GENETICALLY ENGINEERED INGREDIENTS FROM THEIR CAFES, BREW FAIR TRADE COFFEE ON A REGULAR BASIS AND IMPROVE WORKING CONDITIONS ON THE PLANTATIONS WHICH GROW THEIR COFFEE.

This will be the first multinational US corporation to state that they will not use GE ingredients and when they do this the first crack will appear in the bio tech cartel and more will follow.

If you are willing to participate please contact Tom at  tom@organicconsumers.org. Please tell our staff which Starbucks outlet(s) you will be leafleting, when and where, and we will be happy to send you an organizing packet. In the meantime you can read about the latest campaign developments on the special Starbucks section on our web page, which is updated daily.

You can also send Starbuck$ CEO Orin Smith a FAX from our web site at  http://www.purefood.org/Starbucks/sampleletter.htm. Please make sure all of your friends know about this. The more we keep those FAX machines chugging away the sooner they will cave in.

Starbucks has been under fire from all sides and is receiving more and more negative publicity in the press. Based on the public statements of their top management, it is clear that Starbucks is increasingly worried. With your support we will see a complete victory in the next 30-60 days.

Again, thanks for your help, and congratulations in advance for helping us force Starbuck$ to the negotiating table.

Regards & Solidarity,
Tom Taylor
