We outfoxed them at every fucking turn!!!!

02.05.2001 23:28

We held off the riot fash at every turn, from street to street, with a spontaneous network of organic solidarity, consolidated by people spotting for us, encouraging us, standing by our sides and helping us out the front when shit got too heavy. The atmosphere as we out-manouvered the police from round the back of oxford street, all the way down Bond street and round through Covent Garden, then Soho and finally Holborn was one of Jubillant victory with fellow allies shouting, 'We're doin it, we're doin it!'. turning back, all that could be seen was a sea of merry bods- 1000 or so in total; stalked, sulkily by the pigs. At one point we had them surrounded on Oxford street with protestors spontaneously breaking into a raucus rendition of, 'Harry Roberst he's our friend, he's our friend, he's our friend, Harry Roberts he's our frined, god bless 'arry'. This is where we incurred most of our - minor but rather nasty injuries (Battered heads, faces, arms and legs, plus a few smashed shields- we gotta make em stronger and much bigger for next time). Covent Garden saw the entire crowd swim past an isolated police car, much to the bafflement of intimidated officers, prefering to keep up the momentum with our reclaiming of the desolate, Capital-dry streets. Soho saw us pull some wicked double bluff manouvres on the pigs- with allies pointing us in safe directions whilst the cops tried to assemble themselves at every opportunity- largely unsuccessfully. We veered down alleyways, backed up down short and narrow streets, steamed round corners and generally held our own every place we went- with tons of thumbs up and shouts out from supporters in shops, offices, bars and cafes. Undaunted by any cop line, if they faced us, we simply turned round and marched on, filling out the streets with our energetic presence, our unified voices- we had all the old favourites-'One Two Three Four, Es-ca-late the Class War!', Whose Streets? OUR STREETS!!!'WHADDA WE WANT? REVOLUTION! When do we want it? NOW!!!! etc etc and our mutual respect fuelled solidarity. Lines broke down as we literally raced against the riot police who were sprinting up behind us, dribbling out of side streets and suddenly, very angry and very much everywhere, as we ran up Holborn. With too much space between everybody and panic running pretty high, everybody legged it in a multitude of directions, only to meet up, some hours later, in pubs all over london to raise their glasses to a day of Chaotic Genius! Sadly, the 2000 or so comrades trapped inside Oxford Circus could not be released, much everybody wanted them to join us, we were simply out numbered and out flanked by the pigs, but we certainly caused them much frustration, irritation, confusion and panic (especially over their jobs) with an hour and a half of wild-style rampant ruckus-ing throughout the streets of london. £20 million in profits lost- Luvly! and big ticking offs for the officers who could not control or contain the WOMBLES and all their amazing, cool as fuck mass of new mates.

There were only about 17 of us this time and we held them off- imagine what we could've done with a few hundred

LOVE and RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch!

I saw one cop on tv laying into the wombles big time and then some, and heard that there were bones broken. Respect to the wombles for holding it together through a nightmare scenario of escalating police and media attention, and then coming out onto the streets fully identifiable in white overalls - respect!

Ouch but no 'crunch'!

We did get a real fuckin battering, especially on Oxford Street, but there were not ANY broken bones.
One guy did get his helmet deliberately knocked off and a blow to his head, but he turned out to be fine(some helmet improvement needed for next time). Other than that, just bruises, etc. The exciting thing was that even when blows were raining down on you, the shields( well, most of them - my type was good and strong) and helmets withstood the blows, and we stood our ground. We even managed with the first few riot lines we came across to scare or force them into retreat. It felt SO empowering to walk fearlessly into riotlines, taclke them and not get hurt! To echo my fellow Womble above, imagine what we can do with a hundred or more using these tactics.....!!!!
