From the queu to get out of Oxford Circus

Report from the oxford circus "bubble" - what the police are calling it.

London: Police look like prats as massive, disciplined demo takes Oxford Street
Colin Lloyd, London
+++ 1955: I have been speaking throughout the day to Revolution and Workers Power comrades. As at 1955 - Live from Oxford Circus - my source says:
"They are slowly letting the protesters out of Oxford street. Totally over the top policing - Livingstone and the Met look like idiots. We took Oxford Circus with about 3,000 protesters - very little violence - what there was was caused by police baton charges."
"The Wombles did well, so did Revolution. [Revo has been featured on C4 news]. Three lots of demonstrators penned in: Oxford Street, Oxford Circus and Cavendish Square."
All the UK news bulletins are full of heart searching about the policing and about global capitalism. Even CBI chief Digby Jones said - it was some out of order people and some good people.
The political forces in Oxford Circus were a mixture of spiky/fluffy anarchists plus the socialist left.
I have just seen footage of theWombles taking on police outside Foyles on Charing X Road - looked fairly recent eg 1930-ish.
This confirms a previous posting about the Wombles journey thru Soho.

Police violence shown on Channel 4

01.05.2001 19:37

I just saw the Channel 4 news. They showed pictures of police throwing someone on the ground. However I didn't see any violence by the protestors. One of the police people (I didn't remember his name) talked about it though (??? I am not convinced).

I hope the protestors manage to prosecute the police for their treatment and incarceration. Or will it be proven that people have no right to peaceful protest ?

Propaganda Rules!

Ch4 coverage was worst of all , biased and inflamatory. They still bandied about words like "violence" and "terrorism" and "targetting" when the demonstration didn't live up to the media hype!
