A number of different actions took place in Manchester. one of them involved about a hundred people without any prior plan wandering the streets from 2p.m. with ad-hoc samba band, handing out various informational leaflets, clogging up traffic throughout the city centre as they wove back and forth along main artery roads. The police were kept constantly moving and seemed infuriated because they couldn't discern the plan, precisely because there wasn't one, so maximum effect was created by this relatively small number of people. Energy was diffused about 4pm when police (mounted, in vans and on foot) hemmed in those that couldn't run when surrounded on Stockport Rd, where they were held, seemingly without hassle, for half an hour. People eventually dispersed, some going on to another action on Deansgate that was about to begin.
