hmor | 25.04.2001 09:21

Another journo starts to notice the huge amount of propaganda that's been pumped out by the press over last 2 months...

Ken Livingstone says "Make MayDay Violent!"

25.04.2001 13:57

So, Ken Livingstone says - stay away from MayDay protest if you are peaceful.

Surely if lots of peaceful protesters turn up, the violent few will appear as that, and many of them may not feel so comfortable being violent.

Is it a violent protest he wants? Because if peaceful protesters stay away that only leaves the violent ones, with more room to cause trouble.

I remember last years protest as being peaceful, then ripped to pieces by police horses and baton charges, then shat on by the media.

A lot of people were expecting "people's champion" red ken to turn up in defiance to the anti-people Blairites. Now he has linked arms with them and the police.

Great!

PEACE

25.04.2001 15:01

Let the peaceful come.
Let us show who the real thugs are.
Let the peaceful come to London May 1st.
There may be some violence. From the police.

Let the peaceful dissidents be heard.
Let democracy be heard.
Peace.

I'm coming too

Quebec and the BBC

25.04.2001 17:09

Funny, the BBCs coverage, since a lot of the reports from Quebec last week were quite fair. Well, fair to the extent that the violent protestors were not berated at any large extent, and there cause was recognised as legitimate. There is still a lot to be desired - peaceful protests warrented only a footnote in a few reports, and there was no mention of the police brutality that CMAQ highlighted quite effectivly - but step in the right direction.

About time

25.04.2001 17:22

It took them long enuff to wake up. the damage has been done however so it will take a lot of work by the indy and alternative media to give the real story on the day

No "REAL" story

25.04.2001 22:08

Rest assured, the only way of really knowing what happens on MayDay is to go there and be there - stay sober and watch what happens.

That goes for cops present too, as well as protesters. Don't forget to take your conscience with you on the day. Obey no orders except what your heart tells you.

Don't be robots!

And don't let the post event propaganda let you go all doublethink and doubt what happened. Write down what you remember happening May Night, and post it to indymedia, send letters to papers, tell your parents, etc etc. If there are thousands of people doing May Day, then all present have a responsibility to tell the truth and NOT to remain silent. (Make up your own mind if the Sun jam a camera in your face (and lies in your mouth) of course...)

Mayday is OURS not THEIRS. Just work out what OURS and THEIRS means to you before turning up.

Traitor Ken!

29.04.2001 13:09

So much for Red Ken! Thanks for letting me know that he can't be trusted any more than the rest of them.

Had thought he was one of the few 'Labour' members left - but obviously not.

TONY BENN

01.05.2001 15:09

TONY BENN, has been the only remaining member of the Labour party to speak up in favour of legitimate protest and demonstration based on ideals which oppose corporate capitalism. Although he does not endorse violent struggle, Benn certainly broaches the complexity involved in any demonstration of consensual belief opposing individual belief. A complexity which we all encounter every day of our lives.

Action is the only means by which an individual might find expression within a hegemony which is shorn up at every seam by government and primarily corporate control.

We cannot be denied recourse to such action.
