Results of Magistrates Hearing

23.04.2001 18:32

Gosforth Magistates Court today granted national lesuire group SFI a late license for theiir proposed Lpa Dancing club at Manors Social Club, Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Court heard how the company 'looked after their girls' by making them be self-employed (no illness or holiday benefits or employment rights) ANd charge them 50 quid to dance in their G_strings. The court also heard how the police were fully co-operating with the club (conveniently 300 yards from teh Geordie cop_shop) and would be monitoring CCTV footage from both inside and outside the club when it is up and running.

>The club is located 2oo yards from a project for vunerable women. Dispite protests for a wide range of groups, including women's rights, rape criss, lecturers concerned about expoitation of students and Christian groups the licence was granted.

This was the final liscene needed to for the comapny to go ahead with the 1.5million referbishment of the former social club.

Howver cheeky geordie sqautters who have been in occupation of the building since the weekend are planning a wide range of talks, workshops and events over the coming few days.

'we hope to stay in here as long as possible and hopefully delay the work on the proposed club and highlight the proposed exploitation of women by SFI in their lap dancing club. In the meantime we want to create a SOCIAL club for SOCIAl people where everyone is welcome.'
