Mayday: Wombles public workshop - pics
Peace Media | 22.04.2001 21:48
Around 30 people gathered at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park today for a Wombles public workshop. Police were there in significant numbers (about 15). People discussed confrontational but non-violent solidarity tactics while police surveillance took photographs of those attending - this comes after a large number of corporate media articles demonising the Wombles and accusing them of planning Mayday violence. Police intensified their surveillance when people began to leave, harrassing people, and later made arrests - text report to follow.

1 May 11.am Investiture at Buckingham Palace

Others to be honored are executives of large corporations and members of the Armed Forces.
I trust that you will all agree that this investiture is completely apolitical and make no attempt to disrupt the most important day in our lives.

http://globetrotter.berkeley.edu/people/OBrien/obrien-con0.html This site will give anyone a better idea of the man and his ideas.
His thinking on the Irish situation can be seen to have been ahead of its time especially his concept of a European regional political system, into which competing national interests can be diluted. This is what in fact has happened as the Republic received large amounts of EU monies to help in the building of the Irish IT sector resulting in the Celtic Tiger of today.
He is a popular respected writer across the world except in those circles, thankfully the minority these days, that still think the bombing of innocent Irish, British and foreign tourists is a legitimate way to further ones cause.
We Irish have a much more sanguine approach to the assertion that violence always leads to progress. Our bitter experience is that in the long term justice can only be delivered for ALL through peaceful means, hence my support for George Monbiots approach to May Day.
People must remember that the Tricolour has three colours and that we hear far too much about the Orange and the Green. I would like more Irish to pay attention to the promise held out by the White, - peace, justice and reconciliation.

- getting tired of crossing borders....and tired of hoof and mouth disease imported from England because of the Union. It's great how you demonize the Green in the flag (green nazi is a lovely pop view of history).
