FTAA Protest Closes Canada/US Border

Westernmost U.S./Canada border crossing blocked for over two hours by FTAA protesters from both sides of the border.

A protest march closed the Blaine US/Canada border crossing South of Vancouver, British Columbia (120 km N. or Seattle) this afternoon for over two hours. The action took place as part of a NO to FTAA rally in Peace Arch Park. The rally gathered over 4,000 participants from Canadian and Amercian labour unions, churches and organizatios representing students, environmentalist, artists, farmers and aboriginal groups. The rally and march were spontaneously expressive with musicians, choirs and speakers. There were no violent incidents.
