With respect to the recent abuses of human rights in Addis Ababa, I urge the Ethiopian government to respect its obligations under the international human rights covenants to which it is a state party, and request the following on an immediate basis:

- disclosure of the whereabouts of all missing and arrested people,
- proper medical attention for arrested and injured demonstrators,
- release of arrested students and political dissidents, including members of the Ethiopian Democratic Party,
- reinstatement of any expelled students, and
- removal of armed police from campus.
