Workers Memorial Day RMT March

Comrades,

Workers’ Memorial Day is held on Saturday 28th April.

In many towns and cities across Britain and the world Unions have organised events, marches, wreath-laying ceremonies, etc to commemorate the workers who have been killed by the crazy system of production for profit instead of for human need, which we call capitalism.

Workers’ Memorial Day was started in Canada in 1985 and was formally adopted by the TUC in 1999 and by the Health & Safety Executive in 2000.

We want to get out the simple message: - Remember the dead - Fight for the living!

This year, the RMT South East Regional Council has organised a March and Rally on the theme of Rail Safety, to remember the 35 people killed in the Clapham Rail Disaster 13 years ago, which led to the ’Hidden Report’ into Rail Safety and the recommendation for full installation of Automatic Train Protection on Britain’s railways. 13 years later, following further terrible disasters at Southall, Watford, Ladbroke Grove and Hatfield, two further Public Inquiries have reported on Rail Safety and we are no nearer getting full Automatic Train Protection installed on Britain’s railways than in 1989.
