Public enquiry called for York development

John Prescott calls a public enquiry into Land Securities and York Council's plans to build a huge shopping centre next to the historic site of Clifford's Tower

After months of campaigning, John Prescott has finally agreed to call an inquiry into the planned building of a shopping centre next to Clifford's Tower in York.

Despite huge local opposition over the scheme - including architects, historians, archaeologists, environmental campaigners, businesses and thousands of local people, the Council granted permission for the scheme late last year amidst allegations of corruption/impropriety.

We campaigned for a public inquiry to be held and were pleasantly surprised when we were listened to. However, we have never experienced an inquiry before and would be grateful if people could email us with any tips or suggestions as to what to do and what not to do. Also email us if you want any further information.  socs203@york.ac.uk
