Death of Another Asylum Seeker

D. Florini | 26.03.2001 15:07

The Daily Telegraph of 24th March (Friday) reported the tragic story of a refugee refused asylum status in Britain.

Tommy Klen Mayola, 19, had been homeless in Britain after fleeing the civil war in the DR Congo (Zaire), where both his parents had been killed.
He made an attempt to stow away on an airliner bound for the USA, where his body was found by maintenance staff, having died from suffocation and exposure to high altitude.

RIP Tommy Boy

This is a typical tragedy caused by government stringency on asylum. Had he survived, he would have been, fast-track, deported again. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, the choice is, stay in a war zone and die, or risk dying while fleeing. There are many more Tommy's out there. Fight for their rights because...they are disempowered.
