NATIONAL FRONT NOT TOLERATED IN NOTTINGHAM
NAFA | 15.03.2001 11:44 | Anti-racism
On Saturday 3rd of March the Nazi national Front held a
demonstration outside of Nottingham prison, Perry Road.
demonstration outside of Nottingham prison, Perry Road.
They were using a campaign against paedophiles housed at the Prison to try and drum up support for their cause. This callous exploitation of an emotional issue has not been working for the Nazis.
The local anti-fascist group Nottingham Anti-Fascist Alliance (NAFA) publicised the event and approx. 400 people mostly local people turned out to oppose the racist scum, and successfully delivered a blow to the confidence of the National Front. It is to be noted that out of the hundreds of calls NAFA received, only 1 was in support of the Nazis the rest were messages of support for us. The National Front turn out was a pathetic 30.
Scores of police formed lines at both ends of Perry road, and protesters made a concerted effort to push through at one point the Police line had been pushed back ten feet when out came the batons. Some local people were attacked and injured by the Police. The heavy-handed approach by the Police has been condemned by both the local press and, of all people, the Chairman of Notts Police Authority Coun John
Clarke. He has been quoted as saying: „I went up there as a bystander with an open mind and I did not like what I saw. Most of the people there were peacefully protesting and there was some pushing and shoving but there was no need for officers to draw their batons." NAFA will be following up the many cases of brutality, on the day and we are asking for people who witnessed anything to contact NAFA on 07949
312668 and leave details, or e-mail nafanotts@yahoo.co.uk
We would also like to ask anyone who has photos from the the day to contact us via the details above.
15 Protesters were arrested, and 13 were charged. One of the arrests was of a 16 year old who was not on the demonstration, but was passing by.
As a result of this Demo, the National Front know that they are not welcome in Nottingham. They will be coming to Leicester on the 21st of April (St Georges day) and we plan to humiliate them again. Contact NAFA on the details above. Also the Fash might be coming to Oldham, Manchester on 31st March (yet to be confirmed).
NAFA would like to thank all the people who supported us on the day, and we would like to thank the NF for allowing us the opportunity to make fools of them.
