Most days of the week the pavement which curves around
the front of the tube at Camden High Steet is reserved
for the usual mixture of tourists, shoppers & residents
moving at a frantic pace to their chosen destination.

Camden Chillout!

With public space becoming increasingly smaller Reclaim
The Streets took it on themselves to create a little
ambiance in amongst the rush and slowed down the pace by
bringing the indoors, outdoors with a makeshift living
room.

Two rolls of carpet, a car seat, two air filled armchairs,
and a broken T.V. were placed on the pavement underneath
an RTS banner and Hey presto! It was open house. People
passed, some stopped and chatted, all were intrigued as
various leaflets were handed out to the public. Later in
the afternoon as the sun slid away behind the houses, some
music was provided by street musicians who attracted more
people to come over and lounge about.

There was also a larger than normal police presence in the area, I thought I was going to get nicked at one point for reading a flyer!

Hey Ivan, d'you reckon once they demolish Camden tube station and replace it with another high-tech, glass and metal office complex with space for Gap and Next, only...you will still be permitted to position your armchair in the forecourt?
