Letter of Solidarity with anti-SDI protester Lyndis Percy

MAXOMENOS | 26.02.2001 10:13

An American speaks out about the Crown's prosecution of Lyndis Percy, under the Queen's anti-hate-crime laws, for her protests of America's Strategic Defense Initiative.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing in regards to the prosecution of Lyndis Percy, an anti-nuclear protester,
under the Queen's anti-hate-crime laws for allegedly desecrating an American flag near an
American military base. Speaking as an American, it is abundantly clear to me that
Lyndis Percy committed this act as a form of political protest against America's so-called
Strategic Defense Initiative, and that her actions were not intended to intimidate or
express hatred for Americans in general.

I might also add that I personally find the Crown's prosecution of Lyndis Percy substantially
more offensive than the act for which she is being prosecuted.

A copy of this letter has also been posted to the Independent Media Center web site and
the Independent Media Centre UK web site, and to the Times of London.

Sincerely,
Michael C. Smith
