As if BSE and bankrupcy isnt enough, farmers are about to be dealt another blow.
But the Countryside Alliance will be holding a massive action in central London in mid- March. Considering the circumstances and the excellent show they put up in December last, lets give them a bit of support. Why not ?
The Countryside Alliance are one of the REASONS that the rural economy is in such bad shape ... thet are the political representation of big biz farming, hunting, inhereted mass land ownership, the industrialisation of agriculture.
I hear your point - that yet again the UK agricutural ecomony (particularly small farmers) are going to be affected by yet another economic blow through foot and moth disease but siding with any old ally isn't a good strategy in my opinion.
Organic/eco-friendly farming techniques need to be embraced; the control of vast amounts of land by single land-owners needs to be challenged; the Govt drive to establish GM without citizens' consent needs to be blocked.
A long wish list I know, but people ARE taking the initiative and that is where our strengths lie - not in providing support to a very dubious lobbying group.
The future is so much bigger under our own control ... we have the possibility to create/shaoe a new world and that involves radical alternatives. The economic malaise confronting farmers is of their own making - the future / and our collective rural slavation lies in a solution far greater/bigger than the Countryside Alliance (with its limited vision/understanding/set of values) can ever of us.
