Finish off the WTO on November 05!

Lemming | 04.02.2001 01:01

I know it's more important right now for us to concentrate on May Day, but we should begin to organise for global actions to coincide with the next meeting of the WTO around November 07.

A call for international action to coincide with the WTO's next meeting in Qatar was sent to A-Infos. I posted it to Indymedia and the response I got was extremely encouraging. There seems to be a general consensus for a one-day general strike along with demonstrations all over the world like previous days of action (J18, N30, S26), but bigger. Much bigger. Seattle brought the WTO to the world's attention, this time we'll finish them off! Start organising now!

may it be a valid tactic to attempt to blockade airports thus preventing/delaying departure of WTO memebers to Qatar?

Probably not

I think that's a bit too optimistic but raising hell all over the world on an even larger scale than J18, N30 or S26 would give them a clear message that we're not gonna take any more of their shit.

Indymedia UK, dosen't seem to get as much feedback from the public, as DC. does, why are Brits so disinterested in voicing their opinions, or don't they have one anymore? N5, should be like Beltaine, and all the other days of disobedience combined. Blockading airports will certainly bring the military out...but then so does a 'megaphone' nowadays! The inaccesibily of Qatar need not be a setback, these totalitarian organisations have some very accessible headquarters! Let's get in on!

the dates....

just a minor point: according to the wto's website the meeting is on 9th to the 13th of november, not the 5th.

and can we please have large mobilisations at the weekend (10th and 11th) because while i'm all for skiving and causing damage to capital that way, many people can't afford to risk losing their job/that day's pay just to go to a demo, so far more working people (which is who it should be, not all these middle-class liberal whingers who just want to reform capitalism to stop the workers getting so angry they rise up and over throw them) will come. and the earlier we start the better. get it in people's minds now!
