Urgent Support Needed.

Rata | 25.01.2001 14:54

We have just received the following urgent request for solidarity:

Dear friends,
Yesterday in the evening our friend (active anarchist,
anarcho-syndicalist militant and anti-militarist activist of Women in Black Belgrade) Srdjan Knezevic-Sicko was arrested at Belgrade airport.
During the Kosovo war he left the army so we think that he is
probably accused of desertion. Serbian police doesen't want to give any information about where he is now or what it is going to happen to him. They just said that they are "taking him somewhere else".
He appeared at public TV, talking about anti-militarism and we think this is also related to his arrest. The Anti-militarist movement launched a big disscusion about the military in Yugoslavia, which it gained big support from the public and Sicko is one of the most active in this
movement.
Today the biggest State (earlier Milosevic and now DOS)
controled newspaper "Politika" published a big article attacking anti-militarist activists (especialy Women in Black) and supporting the army. It is obvious that the army structures in Yugoslavia (who are puting a lot of pressure on Kostuinica and his new govermant) are afraid that soon
they will lose any influence on what is happening in the country, so they are now trying to find neccecary ways to save their positions.
What can you do? Contact your nearest Yugoslavian Embassy. Call them, send them faxes and ask them where is Srdjan Knezevic and ask for his releasw!
I hope I will have time to send you more information and fresh reports about actions and what is happening in this case.
Anarcho-syndicalist greetings

Below is a copy of an email I received from ainfos yesterday. Good news indeed. Here's hoping that Sicko is not prosecuted or harassed any further.

Dear friends,
Srdjan Knezevic-Sicko has been freed today. He left home to Kraljevo and he is feeling fine. We would like to thank to everybody who sent messages of support for Sicko and who sent protest letters to yugoslavian emmbasyes. Still there is possibility that military court will prosecute Sicko and we will keep you all informed about that. Againt thank you all for international solidarity you showed us . For destruction of all states!
Anarcho-syndicalist greet
