REFUGEES HUNGER STRIKE

31.01.2001 12:42

With reference to the conditions refugees are being forced into, twenty seven people in Liverpool have just been on hunger strike because of the way they were being treated by the landlord making money out of their situation. They have now been moved, but the issue will arise again. The local press recently produced a front page article blaming refugees for jumping queues for IVF treatment, an article without any apparent backup. The news that people were willing to starve themselves rather than allow the treatment they were recieving in Britain to continue merited a small piece next to the crossword. The real issues must be made clear in the media, most of the people seeking refuge here, are here because they will be killed if they return. Any advice about how we can help publicise the truth would be greatly appreciated.
