Sanctions demo

17.01.2001 18:06

Re. the anti-sanctions demo in Parliament square on Tuesday 16th January, at the risk of soundind pedantic, when were the last protestors let out of the ‘pen’area? I think we were herded into it at about 14.00 to 14.15 and people were being let out in small gruops just after 15.00, which is when I left, so I think ‘several hours’ could be a bit of an exageration, I wasn’t there at the very end so I don’t know... Accuracy is very important if Indymedia is to continue to be a convincing alternative to the corporate propaganda purveyed as ‘news’ by the mainstream media. It also seemed as if Tony Benn was negotiating with the police in order for people to be released, was that just a rumour?. Also does anyone know what the legal situation is with regard to being held against your will without formal arrest or charge?

violent, nasty cops at sanctions action

18.01.2001 22:16

Absent from your record was the blatant police violence. I had a very unpleasant, surly policeman constantly pushing me violently. When I sat down as a non violent response to his violence, he pulled me up by my hair, then twisted my arm behind my back. My shouts of pain brought attention from a friend who jumped in and got him off me.
Another friend in the sit down had a cop put his fist in her throat and say "if you don't stand up, i'm going to hurt you."
Later I was getting squashed by more violent, ignorant cops, as luck would have it while I was chatting to a journalist from Associated Press, who was very frightened by the police. I spoke with her later and she said she was writing a piece about it, but I haven't seen anything.
I had just returned after 8 days with Voices in Iraq, and was surprised to find that the most frightening experience I had this January was at the hands of the Metropolitan Police...
One protestor apparently had his wrist broken by a policeman. Was anyone else brutalised?

15 people were arrested and charged with Highway Obstruction. They will all be appearing at Bow Street Magistartes Friday 19 January at 2pm. Support welcome.

HTML LINKS!!!!!

24.04.2001 16:56

INDYMEDIA PEOPLE, LISTEN!
THIS IS FUCKING IMPORTANT!

You HAVE to make webaddresses clickable!
It cann be automated.
On Mulbery, my email software, if you type
in something beginning with http:// or www.
it automatically makes it a clickable limk.

I see so many urls referred to on this site
and yet none of them are clickable.
This meas far fewer people are visiting
those sites.

Make it effortless, that's what the internet
is all about.

I WILL keep pestering you on this one,
as it is SO important.

..Other than that, keep up the good work. :-)
