Consume.net

Consume.net is a non-profit group trying to establish non government or corporate controlled broadband access to the Internet. Those into indpendent media may want to check it out.
This is not an advertisment, since consume.net is not a for-profit organisation, or Internet Service Provider. What they are doing is, essentially, attempting to use a loophole in the Telecoms Act to establish a wireless broadband network around the country, which can be accessed directly by people, without the need for a middleman in the form of ISPs like AOL or Freeserve.
This would seem to hold excellent potential for independent media and struggle.
Check it out.
