- | 05.01.2001 16:59

The Animal Liberation Front has claimed responsibility
for the freeing of 46 Beagles from Wye College Beagles kennels last night.

pledge to ban hunting and hunt sabs continue to risk their
lives to protect our wildlife the Animal Liberation Front is taking matters into its own hands. All the dogs will be placed in safe, loving homes."

Check this out - here are their plans for vigils and demos

-plus note the recent success they've had in swaying the online and phone polls about hunting - through good use of email alerts telling members to vote in all the polls... (there's still one or two underway)

HAPPY NEW YEAR

1. INFO / UPDATE
It is highly likely that hunting with dogs will be an election
issue. Politicians seem to think that banning hunting is a
vote winner - we have to convince them that banning
freedom is a vote loser. The CA Campaign for Hunting
will meet the challenge and the next few months will be
crucial to our battle - and critical as to how any future
Labour Government addresses the hunting issue.

The Hunting Bill will be debated during the week of the
15th January - day to be confirmed.

Prior to this there will be a DAY OF ACTION on
12th or 13th January. These are being co-ordinated locally
and vary from a mass Meet to a mini-March to a photo
shot of all those possibly affected by a ban outside a
magistrate's court. When plans are in place (and assuming
you have informed us of your county/constituency) we will
send you information targeted to your area.

There will also be a VIGIL in Parliament Square from
Monday 15th January until the day of the vote. We are
not looking for numbers, but drop-in visitors offering
comfort and encouragement will be very welcome. If you
can bring a story and journalist with you, all the better.
REGIONAL MEETS will take place on the day of the
Hunting Bill Debate/Vote demonstrating confidence and
defiance - "no surrender." So far, this idea has taken off
in Wales, Cornwall, East Anglia, Sussex and Cumbria.
BANNERS - banners will be springing up across the
country. If you have a suitable site (good visibility, empty
building in prime location etc.) please let us know.

2. POLLS

POLL RESULTS -
Channel 4 Poll:

Total ban 46.7%,
Licensing 6.6%,
Self regulation 46.6%
Channel 4 said, "Thanks to all of you for taking part in
our hunting poll. On the face of it, the narrowest of
victories for the first option, a total ban on hunting.
But if you combine options two and three, there's a
clear majority in favour of continuing
hunting, whether licensed or self-regulated."

YouGov Poll

Which hunting option?
Outright ban 38%
Licensing 9%
Self-regulation 52%
Do you agree that the anti-hunting lobby is based around
deep class resentment?

No 39%

Western Morning News Survey (1438 replies)

POLLS TO DO
Another YouGov poll

 http://www.yougov.com/news.jsp?news.id=10011084&a=0&d=2
asks about banning hunting and whether you think the
Government spends too much time debating hunting.

 http://www.yougov.com/news.jsp?news.id=10011236

asks whether or not you approve of large donations made
to political parties.

The Royal Agricultural Society England is running a poll
on the Right to Roam at night. Go to 'Previous Votes' at
the bottom of the blue box and scroll down the various
votes.

3. MARCH UPDATE
Calling Grass routers abroad -
Wanted - Fun and interesting photographs of our s
upporters who live abroad, with clearly visible
'LIBERTY AND LIVELIHOOD' stickers with a
background to the photograph of typical and
representative view of the country. The more exotic
the better, whether it be the Tanzanian Bush or a
Japanese Pagoda in Kyoto.
This would be a fun addition to our 'March' website but will
also hopefully be taken up by the Media when they see
the extent of our foreign support. Please request car
stickers from us and ask your friends to Download any
relevant film on a 'Digital Camera' to our 'March' E-mail
address which is,

 march-info@countryside-alliance.org

Good idea - place an item about the March in your
Parish newsletters to rustle up support and arrange
a village bus, giving local co-ordinators contacts.

See March Website (www.march-info.org)

4. FAX YOUR MP
The opposition are faxing their MPs, we must do
the same, and in greater numbers, especially up to
the vote in the week of the 15th Jan.

5 STOP PRESS
Thieves broke in to the Wye College Beagles kennels
last night and stole 46 hounds. Thieves cut the padlock
with bolt cutters and the theft was discovered this morning.
The Animal Liberation Front has claimed responsibility
and has said, "As the Government procrastinates on their
pledge to ban hunting and hunt sabs continue to risk their
lives to protect our wildlife the Animal Liberation Front is
taking matters into its own hands.
All the dogs will be placed in safe, loving homes."
