Faruque | 07.12.2000 17:34

Who decides, on what basis; who can say, what can be said and when?

Howcome UK.indymedia removed/censored story like D06 10:49:27 "Palestine Fight Apaetheid", posted 6/12/2000?

we had a simuilar incedent in portland a story was posted saying the local police chief was "wanted dead or alive" and it listed his address below. well the story recieved various forms of censorship and the portland imc recieved various forms of complaints.
well they said their reasoning was this, they didnt want to give the police any reason to shut them down. was it smart?or was it chicken-shit? You decide.

Some censorship required.

I know this topic has been gone over again and again, but just to add my little opinion....some censorship is, I'm afraid, always needed.

What if a raving Nazi posts on the site? Is he allowed to clog up the newswire? Or a guy posting 100 messages about porn sites? This site, and the other IMCs around the world are here for a reason, and it is a clearly stated one...any posts which fall outside their remit should quite clearly not be remaining on the newswire.

Whether the article we're discussing fits that bill, I'm not so sure, since I didn't see it. All I'm trying to say is; censorship is not ALWAYS evil.
