F**K FEE'S

Dan Buckley | 06.12.2000 20:01

A summery of the Anti-Fees march in belfast.

Over 500 people marched through Belfast today in two marches. One march left from the art college which contained students from Derry, Coleraine and other institutions and the other from Queens University Belfast.

Sean Farren the minister for education and a leading member of Northern Irelands labour party the SDLP has been fighting everyone to keep tuition fees. The SDLP controls the Students union in Queens University and other institutions, but is only fighting the fees.

The NUS/USI is settling down with the idea of fees and have started to call the march the “annual fees march”. Politicians were wheeled out to the crowd and where given five minutes to say how great students where and how they were fighting tuition fees. People rightly jeered the SDLP MLA (I can’t remember his name) as he said that he wanted to see an end to the tuition fees. It is pure hypocrisy from the SDLP, on the one hand they want to keep the fees to please big business that gets cheap labour, and on the other fight the fees because it will win them votes!
