Protest against Nestle in Bristol

Activists moved on the new ‘public’ space of the @Bristol development on Friday to highlight the involvement of it’s ‘major sponsor’ Nestle and how some of the money invested in a cafe there comes from their controversial baby milk sales.

Protest against Nestle in Bristol

A group of protesters and activists gather at the new @Bristol site (www.at-bristol.org.uk) to protest and an educational project having accepted the money of Nestle. This corporation has often been found to violate the codes of conduct it has signed up to. Using powdered baby milk in place of breast milk is 25 times more likely to result in the death of the infant than breast feeding, but Nestle (or @Bristol) don’t seem to care.

Gathered outside were a coalition of groups from African Initiatives (www.african-initiatives.org.uk), Baby Milk Action (www.babymilkaction.org) , trade unionists, anarchists and concerned citizens. After an hour of canvassing people in the area with leaflets and free fair trade coffee the action culminated in an occupation of the Nestle Cafe, which sent security into a panic and calls out to the police.

In all many of the public accepted leaflets with interest and disgust at Nestle’s actions, @Bristol showed their true colours with aggressive security and ducking the issues raised. More actions will follow! @Bristol must pay a price for accepting money from Nestle.

Bitter taste of Nestle

Wow - what a well-balanced articulation of the fundamental issues at stake. Beautifully written!

It's great to hear that people are piping up about an issue believed by many to have 'passed'. By enhancing their reputation brands gain further market strength - well done for exposing their scam!
