Mass antifascist demo in Barcelona on the 12th Oct

translation of former posting

At midday of the 12th of october, there was a demo of around 6000 people under the banner “Feixisme mai més, ni a Sants, ni a Montjuïc, ni enlloc” (Fascism never again, neither in Sants, Monjuic or anywhere else). That date is the day of "spanishhood", traditionally used by Spanish nationalists (fascists) to scorn national minorities like the Catalonians and other "impure" peoples. Previous years saw huge confrontations when antifascists tried to block the fascists´ meeting in the Sants area (hence the banner). This year the antifascists decided to change tactics and make their demo legal before the fascists did so, producing a different scenario.
