Meanie Mayor Pigeon Protest

Who he | 12.10.2000 14:21

Animal welfare activists forced the self styled Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, to cancel a photo call in Trafalgar Sq today.

He was about to claim credit for his latest, inexplicably petty minded project, which involved the eradication of the pigeons. For some time he has been talking about regenerating the area ( nothing is 'scrapped' or 'demolished' any more in Blair's Britain), which most people assumed involved pedestrianization. But clearly he wishes to emulate his Dearest Leader, who in similar fashion, threw the resident cat in No. 10 out when it became ill, and its whereabouts after never established. As the bodies of dead pigeons already start to mount up in Trafalgar, we must ask if our Ken is actually now "beyond our ken" (trad expression for bizarre behaviour).
Can there be anyone who whilst visiting London as a child, didnt want to see and feed the residents ? I have a photo with several perched on my head, and so have most of you reading this, I'll bet.
Isnt this just another little bit of autonomous London being destroyed to make way for the New State ?

Dear Auntie,
I'M worried about my friend. He's always been a bit of a laugh but recently he started saying he was the boss and everyone had to do what he said, cos he had difficult decisions to make. So i told him to prove he was the boss, then he ed this cat. I dont see him much now, but I'm starting to hear voices telling me to pigeons and things.
Please help me, im scared im not normal and I'll end up like him.

Yours Kil Pigeonstone

Pigeons carry more diseases than rats..............
Do we feed and pet the rats in London..........?

What a load of (pigeon) crap

Sorry, but I feel that preserving the habitats of wild animals does not include that of pigeons. They are as dirty as we are and the reason they flourish is because we're so dirty - this is an arguement for greater recycling, refuse collection rather than killing them (no matter how humanely).
I agree that killing pigeons is out of order - let's get the London clean and they'll bugger off. However, they do carry diseases and - like Paxman said - we don't necessarily pet and care for the rats that live in this city.

My point is: greater investment in cleaning/sewage/recycling is the answer not killing lots of hapless pigeons. Does the campaign to highlight the plight of Traf Sq's filthy inhabitants touch on these more critical issues or is it simply limited to shouting about them because they are animals? I'm interested.

A while ago some guy called "Derg Donlon" ran several spoof articles on IMC Mayday USA about what he regarded as certain hypocrisies within the movement, causing some outcry with his "Genocide of the Ugly" pieces. So, Furry Gorillas and Spotted Tigers have the 'right to life' , and pigeons, alresdy semi-domesticeted have to die for the New London of Ken Rentokil

In a spurious announcement today, the culprit in question said

"Ha ha ha ! Dont you think that i, Great Pidgeonkil, am mightier than a few miserable diseased
birds ? O, no ! I have plans, unbelieveable plans for our city. Whats mine is yours my friends, and whats yours is mine ! Let us unite, and crush these unclean vermin without mercy ! "
