Mani en Madrid en apoyo a Pres@s Praga'00(spanish & english)

El domingo por la mañana se ha llevado a cabo, a pesar de las artimañas policiales, una manifestación en Madrid para exigir la inmediata liberación de l@s detenid@s en Praga, a la que han asistido unas 1000 personas.
La mani no había sido permitida por Delegación de Gobierno, y aunque la denegación había sido recurrida, el permiso no había sido concedido. A pesar de esto l@s convocantes decidieron mantener la quedada y ejercer su derecho a manifestarse libremente a pesar de la falta de consentimiento. La policía ha intentado impedirlo acosándoles con cacheos, registro de bolsas y mochilas, pidiendo identificaciónes... En un momento dado consiguieron dividir a l@s concentrad@s en pequeños grupos aislados. Pero la presión ejercida por el amplio número de manifestantes ha hecho que al final la mani se pudiese llevar a cabo desde la calle de Atocha hasta el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores donde se ha leído un comœnicado de protesta que denunciaba la situación de l@s más de setenta detenid@s que todavía peremanecen en prisiones de Chequia, así como la existencia de casi un centenar de personas desaparecidas. El cortejo ha tenido en todo momento un ambiente festivo a pesar de las provocaciones policiales y ha finalizado sin incidentes.

Solidarity Demo in Madrid (translation)

Last sunday morning Madrid saw a demonstration of 1000 participants in solidarity with the Prague’00 prisoners and for their immediate release from Czech prisons. This demo went ahead even though the spanish police had tried to stop it. The demonstration had been banned by the spanish authorities, and although the organisers had appealed against the ban, a permit for it was never granted. Therefore the organisers of the demo refused to be intimidated and decided to exercise their right to freely demonstrate going ahead with their plans.
The police used repressive tactics such as body searches, inspection of bags and rucksacks, and identity checks of many activists. Eventually the police managed to divide the demo in several smaller groups, but the strong response and pressure by the demonstrators finally made the demo possible in one single block. The demo went from Atocha street to the Ministry of External Affairs where a communique was read. This denounced the extreme situation in which more than 70 prisoners are still being held in the Czech republic, as well as pointing to the fact than almost 100 people are still unaccounted for since S26.
Although the police kept harassing the activists, the demonstration kept a carnival atmosphere and ended without major incidents.
