For some inexplicable reason the City of London Police had also decided to participate as only they can, even though the action had not been publically advertised. (Fidelity, by the way, own far too much of Occidental Petroleum, the company hellbent on the eviction of the U'wa from their ancestral lands.)

Having politely embarrassed this bastion of the financial community, we headed for the Colombian Embassy, nestling in the shadow of 'top peoples' store' Harrods in Knightsbridge - London's ritziest postcode. We blocked the entrance (to the Embassy) with banners for about half an hour before being honoured with a distinguished presence. The Colombian ambassador no less was forced to pick his way past the banner reading 'No Blood For Oil', to take our leaflets, to take a Financial Crimes with articles on both Plan Colombia and the U'wa, and to remain tight-lipped in the face of questioning as to his government's role in the appalling ongoing situation. With any luck the tale of his inconvenience and possible embarrassment has already been registered by the Colombian government.

The armed response unit of the Metropolitan Police then arrived to tell us that by protesting outside the embassy we were damaging its 'integrity', but that by crossing the road and becoming pretty well invisible... that 'integrity' would be mysteriously preserved. While we insisted that 'integrity' and the Colombian government would make very uneasy bedfellows, we nevertheless complied with their request. So, a small action successfully carried out, as well as a good chance to meet up again with Colombians based here in London and to talk of further activities to oppose and highlight Plan Colombia etc., including an ironic 'commemoration' of Human Rights Day on December 10th at the US Embassy.
