having recently discovered a site which i thought believed in free speech and the ability of its viewers to analyze information for themselves i am deeply upset to find that this site is just as biased as the nazi party in treating its viewers like sheep and protecting them from the awful truth!
please have the balls to print a reply to this letter

you must have some principles you believe in
or is this a fifth clumn homepage and i was just perpetuating the myth of freedom

QUESTION FOR INDYMEDIA

Can only Indymedia workers delete items from the site, or can anyone?
Can an Indymedia representative answer this?
This information should be added to sites permanently.

Quick Reply from Indymedia UK

The Newswire is for reports from actions and demonstrations primarily in the uk - with the focus on reports from participants.

See the guidelines set out when you hit the 'Publish' button (reprinted below) which explains that the newswire is a place for news and not commentary.

This is the reason why the posting was removed - because it was, as has been said a 'condemnation of the Labour party's foreign policy', as opposed to being a news posting.

These recent postings asking why the original article has gone come in fact just as we are working to create a separate section of the website to accommodate such contributions - please be patient - we're still getting
used to the code that's being used on the site.

We will later tonight post an article explaining all of this, including guidelines for use , and including, as we were planning, the couple of postings that were removed from the newswire (if the posts had an email address we would have explained this in an email to the person who posted it).

The site is still evolving and the article tonight will give you a good idea of the new facilities that will be added.

Indymedia UK Crew.

sad concept of freedom

19.08.2000 00:31

if your concept of freedom is a rant about that poor political party called labour ... how sad ...
and by the way ... that's neither news or report ...
it's your opinion on labour party ...
what would indymedia web site look like if people start
posting their own opinions on whatever is of their
concern ... so .. inform/report .. tell everyone what's new
in actvism ... but don't abuse the open system by
posting your rants ...
