Hunger strike at Yarl's Wood Prison - 8 May 2007

On Tuesday 8 May 2007, barely five days after a hunger strike by the women at Yarl's Wood gaol, in Bedfordshire, another hunger strike began at about 11.00am this morning. According to detainees held inside the prison, over 100 people including children are refusing food. The detainees are refusing to enter their rooms and are staying out in the gardens. The racist authorities are ignoring them as usual, hoping the protest dies down. the protest is against the conditions of the detention: 'we are not criminals, we have not killed anybody, yet we are being held here... this place is a prison really... the kids are scared of the police when they come in... no one can sleep, we are all stressed...' said one of the detainees.

There are people in large metropolitan cities being stalked, harassed, mobbed, and followd around and many do not know why. Many are having to change jobs, move constantly, have their lives disrupted and they can't find help or assistance for what is happening to them. Many are stumbling in the dark and being mislead by those around them. I hope to the best of my ability to shed a little bit more light on what is happening and help others better start to find help and assistance.

The South African state is trying to smash the shackdwellers movement. They are highly militant and have done a lot of great things since they started about 2 years ago. Now 5 of the comrades are in prison on trumped up charges of murder. They stand to spend 2 years awaiting trial in one of the most horrible prisons in South Africa. If comrades in different countries could fax the South African embassies in your country, calling for the release of the Kennedy 5, this might help. Jonny Ablewhite, along with John Smith and Kerry Whitburn, had their appeal today against the draconian sentence of 12 years for activities related to Newchurch guinea pig farm. They received no reduction in sentence. The prosecution were even told they didn't need to present their case. This is indicative of the corruption of the judicial system and the state's repression of animal rights activists!
