Next weekend (Sat 13th & Sun 14th May) will be a big get-together to help plan the Summer Climate Camp. All welcome.
The camp itself will be a 10 day gathering in the north of England, from 26th August to 4th Sept. It will draw people who want to actively tackle the causes of climate chaos, learn how to live lightly and sustainably and change our lives and the communities we live in.
A tall order? Not when we realise how effective grassroots change on a huge scale can be. Inspired by the eco-camp at Stirling last year, it will be a combination of workshops and direct action, autonomous and non-hierarchical. It will be what we make it!
We hope to have ‘neighbourhoods’ at the camp – gatherings from different regions of the country that can offer support to individuals as well as draw together like-minded local groups. In this way, good ideas formed at the camp can be taken back to communities and built upon. From the treetops at Shepton Mallet ( http://www.bristol.indymedia.org/newswire.php?story_id=24695) to the bus-stops of Bristol ( http://bristol.indymedia.org/newswire.php?story_id=24955), the cycle lanes ( http://www.bristolcyclingcampaign.org.uk/) and flight paths ( http://www.nobristolairportexpansion.co.uk/) we are all in this together. I hope we will be able to create a strong Bristol contingency!
