A demonstration is planned for Saturday the 27th of November to call for the closure of Campsfield House in Oxfordshire, one of the centres where refugees are imprisoned while their claims are being read. It commiserates 11 years of the centre's existence and pledges contnued support for the people held inside.
The demonstration is one of the monthly gatherings at the Detention Centre which show some of the public support for the plight of the people inside. This month's gathering will also serve as a repeated call to close the centre as promised a few years ago, rather than expand it as the government is now planning.
The demo is organised co-operatively by the several groups working in Oxfordshire to support the claims and rights of refugees. They include "Close Campsfiled Campaign" and "Barbed Wire Britain". The demo may call for an end to immigration control altogether, a position consistent with the radical social change aspired to by many of today's activists.
The demo runs from 12-2pm at Campsfield House, Langford Lane, Kidlington. Bus 2D runs as far as the Oxford Motor Park and the airport, near to the site.
