Peru Rainforest Event
HELP SAVE THE ANCIENT AMAZON RAINFOREST
THE BIGEST LUNG OF THE PLANET
A fundraising event will be held this Saturday January 31st at the Rudolf Steiner School at Hood Manor, Dartington. The aim of this Peruvian cultural event is to raise fund for the Otorongo Holistic Ecology Mo
bile Centre in UK.
There will be an opportunity to meet Huayqui Océano, an indigenous Peruvian, and founder of the Otorongo Holistic Ecology Centre in the Amazon of Peru. After long negotiations Huayqui has secured an area of 24,000 acres of virgin rainforest, which is the “Otorongo” Centre in Peru. Is dedicated to the preservation of Pristine Amazon forest, including the habitat of the Great Jaguar Known locally, as the Otorongo.
However this area is also now under threatened by Burlington Oil Corporation who have a contract to prospect and drill for oil on a massive area of 753,412 hectares of forest including the Otorongo Sanctuary, 27 indigenous communities and 4 other natural protected areas. 70% of Oil block 87 – as it is now being denominated, is pristine Amazon Rainforest and 59% of this is Cloud Forest, an ecosystem containing an incredibly rich biodiversity. A total of 226,119 inhabitants will be directly affected by the petrochemical activity.
There will be a short film on Huayqui’s campaigning work in Peru, and slide show talking about the trees, indigenous people and life on the planet. He will then play live music from the rainforest with traditional instrument and perform an energetic Peruvian celebration dance. Healthy food and drinks will be available and a raffle with fabulous prizes – and much more besides.
This is a wonderful way for the family to spend their Saturday afternoon and to be part of supporting the ancient rainforest for the benefit of the planet.
As Huayqui puts it:
“Our health has always been connected to the health of the living planet”
