"Damacio Lopez, a native of Socorro, New Mexico, worked from 93' to 2000 as research director, studying money in politics, writing legislation & promoting efforts at campaign finance reform in New Mexico. He became involved in Depleted Uranium (DU) research in 86' when he organised Socorro residents in investigation of health risks associated with nearby explosive testing of DU weaponry. In 93', explosive testing was halted in Socorro. Ultimately, the combination of ongoing & relentless volunteer efforts resulted in an invitation to serve as consultant to the UN Sub-Commission on Human Rights.
He is the author of Friendly Fire: The Link between Depleted Uranium Munitions & Human Health Risks (95') & co-author of Uranium Battlefields Home & Abroad: Depleted Uranium Use by the US Dept of Defence (93'). He is a US Air Force veteran. He has also participated on a DU panel at the request of the NGO Committee on Disarmament at the
UN in New York, & a DU panel at The Hague Appeal for Peace in the Netherlands. He remains active in this issue as the executive director of the International Depleted

"The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) provides western military powers with the chance to flaunt their power, & an opportunity for arms companies to advertise their wares. B52 bombers dropped thousands of tons of cluster bombs & DU shells with the purpose to massacre Iraqis & destroy their countryside & infrastructure for decades to come. 2 of these evil warplanes are BACK at Fairford, so that arms dealers & warmongers can have their pictures taken alongside the bomb carriers & schmooze with their crews. Visitors to this armsfest must understand these weapons of mass destruction are responsible for the death & maiming of 10's of thousands of people around the world, & importantly that this mass slaughter has not stopped & will never stop until we say no."
3) PURPLE PIXIES @RIAT : SAT 19th JULY 2003
~*~@ purple~peace~pixies @~*~ at the Fairford RIAT
"They sing, they dance, some play wee drums & others just whistle! Some Purple Pixies collect money for Iraq children's charities, others are just around to make everyone smile! Come & join them! Come & play & sing & bring peace, light & laughter to these rural lanes. Scatter purple petals, hand out leaflets, be a pixie tour guide for a day or more. Anywhere there's a warmonger, an arms dealer or a war machine, nearby you might see a little purple pixie spreading peace & chuckles & light. Tell the RIAT tourists that pixies want the Cotswolds back from the warmongers for good!"

4) OTHER FAIRFORD RIAT ACTIONS
a) POPPY SEEDS APPEAL: "Back in February someone said how good it would be to have poppies planted all around the fences. Now is the time to gather the seed heads, before enthusiastic gardeners trim their borders. The gardens around here are full of them. They can be sprinkled direct from the seed heads onto any disturbed ground. It's better if we're expecting rain after, of course. ;o) If you can collect seed heads, & we need ~lots~ please let us know, & if you want us to scatter them for you, please post them to us."

b) EXPOSE WAITROSE CAMPAIGN: "Our favourite supermarket, isn't it? Well it's a bit pricey, but they've got best selection of organic veg, apart from the box delivery. & mm, the bread! They're supposed to be owned by their workers as well, aren't they? Like a co-op? That makes them really cool, right? Wrong! Did you know they're ticket agents for the Fairford RIAT, the huge arms dealers junket deep in the heart of rural Gloucestershire? Do really want to buy your babyfood, your organic parsnips, your birthday cake, your loo rolls, from an outfit that openly supports the war machine?"
